Christmas feels different every year. This December, Phil and I will spend time in London, flying home on Christmas Eve. It’s been nearly forty years since I last experienced Christmas in the UK.

London at Christmas is pure theater. We’ll hear carols at the medieval church of St Martin-in-the-Fields and sit in the audience in Hackney for Cinderella, a “panto,” that uniquely British holiday tradition of slapstick comedy, song, outrageous costumes and plenty of audience participation.

There will be mornings wandering the British Museum, the V&A, and the Natural History Museum. Shopping will be its own adventure, with an emphasis on museum gift shops and a cruise through the icons, Liberty of London and Fortnum and Mason.
